Keep your distance

Broken branches can remain caught above you, and damaged trees can move unexpectedly. Keep people and pets out of the affected area. Don’t approach a tree to take a better photo.

Treat power lines as a separate emergency

Stay away from downed lines and anything touching them. Contact the electric utility. If people are in immediate danger, call 911. A tree-service request is not a substitute for emergency help.

Call with the location and the problem

Explain where the tree is, what has fallen and whether a road, driveway or structure is affected. Ask about current availability. If you already have photos taken from a safe place, let the crew know.

Agree on the immediate work

A damaged tree may involve more than one visit or type of work. Confirm the scope, access, debris handling and estimate before proceeding. If you intend to make an insurance claim, ask your insurer what documentation they require.
